Feeling full without eating: watching yourself eat induces sensory-specific satiety

Description: Unthresholded group-level statistical maps (T maps; n = 41) from an fMRI study of vicarious sensory-specific satiety. Participants watched 40-s videos of a hand eating snack foods, filmed to be attributed either to themselves (upright, first-person view) or to another person (vertically inverted view), and rated wanting and liking before and after. Watching oneself eat induced sensory-specific satiety (a selective reduction in wanting for the eaten food); watching another eat did not. The collection includes whole-brain contrasts for the pre/post change in wanting, parametric maps of trial-by-trial wanting and liking, the self-vs-other satiety contrast, and the self-vs-other video-viewing contrast. A large online survey (N = 1,000) and a real-eating experiment (n = 6) accompany the fMRI study in the manuscript. De-identified behavioral data: https://osf.io/wa659/
