The carbon footprint of fMRI data preprocessing and analysis

Description: We estimated the carbon footprint of preprocessing and statistical analysis in common fMRI data processing packages. Here, we provide unthresholded group-level activation maps corresponding to each package. Data labelled 'FSL' were preprocessed and subject to first- and higher-level analysis in FSL FEAT. Data labelled 'SPM' were preprocessed and subject to first- and higher-level analysis in SPM12. Data labelled 'fMRIPrep' were preprocessed in fMRIPrep and subject to first- and higher-level analysis in FSL FEAT. For each package we present the contrasts of go trials minus successful stop trials, and successful stop trials minus go trials. Files for fMRIPrep are presented 'Untransformed', in the space data was preprocessed in (MNI152NLin2009cAsym), and 'Transformed', after ANTs transformation into the same space needed to compare outpout with that from FSL and SPM (MNI152NLin6Asym). T-values in 'Transformed' files were somewhat changed during transformation, but the overall patterns of activation remain the same.
